Lunch at Auckland's Sky Tower

The vertical line through this picture is used to slow people who jump off the Sky Tower. Really.

The large white building on top of the green hill is the Auckland Museum.

We stayed at the Scenic Circle hotel, the second building to the right of the AUT building in this picture.

On our way to the Auckland Museum, we ran across some sort of music festival in the park.

Downtown Auckland, view from ferry boat

Karen liked how the Auckland Hilton was designed to look like a boat, befitting its waterfront location.

Devonport is a touristy suburb of Auckland you can get to by ferry. While walking down its main street, we came across The Patriot, a bar that because of its name was showing the Super Bowl that afternoon. We caught the last five minutes of the game, and let out a big cheer when our New England Patriots won.

Minus 5 is a bar in downtown Auckland made entirely of ice. Guess what temperature it is inside.

All the drinks use vodka, which is still liquid at -5 celsius.

Parka party!

Later, when I tried chatting up the ice mermaid (not pictured), Karen said, “Don't bother; she's frigid.”
